Behind the eccentric persona Synesthetic Ivo is Austrian jazz musician and composer Vincent Pongrácz. Dadaist rap lyrics and modified words that celebrate a modern musical nihilism in a humorous and idiosyncratic way are Synesthetic Ivo’s trademark. With unwavering consistency, Synesthetic Ivo creates an audiovisual work of art situated somewhere between David Lynch, J Dilla, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Dadaism. The title track, “Hallo,” was inspired by a drawing with a childlike, chaotic character and, due to its simple and striking lyrics, also gave its name to the entire album. “To be honest, I often find myself torn between making music as an ambitious instrumentalist and composer and producing Austro-Trash Dada rap tracks like HALLO.” (Pongrácz) This very dilemma runs throughout the entire album. While the A-side features several brilliant arrangements with sophisticated horn sections and virtuosic clarinet solos, the B-side reaches its peaks in experimental electronic soundscapes filled with heavily processed vocals and detuned synthesizers.
